Director of Operations

The Director of Operations reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for the oversight and strategic leadership of warehouse and freight logistics functions of the company. This role sets productivity and efficiency targets for the teams under his/her umbrella and develops strategies and execution plans that support larger corporate strategic plans. The Director of Operations is responsible for managing the warehouse environment using KPIs, leveraging information technology to improve flow and productivity, optimizing the Arteriors domestic and international logistics network, and enculturating a High-Performance Workplace-mindset in all of our operational areas.

 Key Responsibilities 

  • Set the strategic direction for operational functional areas, including warehouse throughput and capacity targets, departmental productivity goals, and quality-related goals.

  • Work effectively across departmental lines to ensure that the operations of the company are providing best-in-class service and creating the best customer experience possible.

  • Manage ocean and domestic carrier relationships, including negotiation of broker and carrier agreements, creation and oversight of related processes, monitoring of freight claims and setting and tracking carrier performance targets.

  • Demonstrate a significant leadership component, through constantly re-evaluating the operations department, adjacent department processes, and formally sponsoring and driving process improvement initiatives.

  • Develop long-term strategies to ensure that our supply chain keeps up with the overall strategic direction of the business and the growth trajectory of the company.

  • Within the various departments of operations, effectively spot repetitive problem areas, research inefficiencies, and work collaboratively with supervisory team to improve methods, procedures, or systems.

  • Manage operations supervisory team of assigned departments to ensure timely and accurate receiving of product into inventory, processing and distributing merchandise to customers and receiving, reviewing and restocking returned goods from customers, and cycle count processes.

  • Responsible to ensure quality of work and maintain the accuracy and integrity of the production and inventory records.

  • Oversee development and revision of professional work instructions, procedures, training, and knowledge monitoring/training absorption confirmation processes.  

  • Optimize facility layout and operations which includes designing efficient storage and handling systems, modifying warehouse layout as needed and planning for efficient materials flow.

  • Partner with the Human Resources Department regarding reviews, interviewing, hiring, terminations, and corrective counseling within DC.

  • Maintain safe and clean warehouse environment within OSHA standards

  • Ensure that warehouse workforce receives any required specialized training, i.e. assembly operations, forklift training.

  • Create an effective culture in all operational areas which recognizes individual and team performance, seeks to enhance employee engagement and involvement, while maintaining an issue free environment in a demanding work setting that services five distinct customer market segments.

  • Actively sponsor and manage the personal learning plans and employee growth of direct reports, and ensure those direct reports are doing the same for their reports.



  • 5 years minimum distribution / warehouse operations or production management experience.

  • 3 years minimum Management experience of 50+ employees across multiple departments within a Warehouse environment

  • Bachelor’s degree is REQUIRED, degree in Supply Chain, Industrial Distribution or related field preferred.

  • Significant knowledge of and demonstrated experience in leveraging sophisticated ERP/warehouse management systems to create efficient operational workflow is required.

  • First hand distribution experience in the home décor industry is a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Ability to provide leadership throughout the team, including the ability to mentor high-potential staff, navigate tough personnel issues, provide guidance to supervisors and managers within his/her department, keep staff updated on how the company and his/her department are doing against its goals.

  • Proven skills in driving change throughout his/her organization by articulately stating the reason the change is needed and working collaboratively within operations and with affected departments outside of operations to develop and execute on policies and processes that benefit the department and the company.

  • Initiative and ability to work independently (self-direction), while thriving in a flexible and agile setting requiring collaboration and teamwork for maximum efficiency

  • Demonstrates strong influence management skills to effectively influence collaboratively-designed solutions with peer managers

  • Ability to easily conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Proven, strong organizational abilities.

  • Microsoft Office experience: Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point
